When Kato Kiyomasa built Kumamoto Castle, he gathered skilled artisans from all over the country. At that time, the Hayashi family, who were gunsmiths, brought the inlay technique to Kumamoto. Later, when the Hosokawa family, who loved art and were particularly fascinated by Higo tsuba, took over, warlords changed, and tsuba artisans from all over the country gathered in Kumamoto.
