This is the Thirteenth Printing, dated December 1966, of the original 1961 first edition — the book that introduced generations of American home cooks to French technique. The book itself is clean and crisp: tight binding, no writing or markings, no foxing, pages bright throughout. The cloth cover holds its fleur-de-lis pattern well with no major flaws. The dust jacket shows the wear you'd expect on a nearly 60-year-old jacket — a torn and chipped corner at the top of the spine, edge wear along the panels, light soiling — but it's intact and still on the book. 684 pages covering the full range of classic French cooking, from sauces and soufflés to poultry, meat, and desserts, with Julia Child's signature detailed, step-by-step instruction throughout.
