It means about three kin of hemp seeds, referring to a small amount of hemp seeds. It is said that Zen Master Dōzan Ryōka of China, when asked by a monk, What is Buddha?, replied, Masan kin. This signifies that one can see Buddha in anything if one opens their mind's eye. Zen Master Dōzan Ryōka is a founder of the Sōtō school of Zen Buddhism. [About Master Yogo Suigan] Yogo Suigan In 1977 (Showa 52), he succeeded as the 18th chief priest of Saijō-ji Temple. He was appointed as an advisor to Sōjiji Temple. Subsequently, he served as Chairman of the Sōtō Sect Masters' Council, Councilor of the Sōtō Sect, and Chairman of the Sōjiji Temple Advisors. In 1996 (Heisei 8), he was appointed as the Vice Abbot of the Sōtō Sect's Head Temple, Sōjiji. He passed away on December 21st of the same year. His death poem reads, Letting go, the sun and moon; deceiving people with circumstances; true reality is tasteless; pilgrimage is eternally new. Sōjiji Temple, the Head Temple of the Sōtō Sect, is a temple of the same rank as Eihei-ji Temple, founded by Zen Master Dōgen.
