Up for sale is a beautiful, highly collectible piece of Northeast Native American material art. This vintage Wabanaki (attributed Penobscot) fancy basket is masterfully handwoven from traditional brown ash splints. It features a beautifully carved, movable bentwood swing handle attached with metal rivets. The standout feature of this basket is the exceptional porcupine curl (or snail curl) weaving technique layered across the exterior. This painstaking method involves twisting individual wood splints to create a stunning, multi-dimensional geometric texture. Dimensions: * Length: 10 inches * Width: 8.5 inches * Height: 5 inches (approx. 9 inches total height with the handle extended up) Condition: This basket is in good, well-intact pre-owned condition with wonderful vintage character. The structure remains sturdy and tight. The delicate curls are exceptionally well-preserved across the body, with only the minimal, minor age-related wear expected of authentic mid-century wood splint basketry. It has a beautiful, natural warm honey patina. Please review all photos closely to appreciate the detailed craftsmanship. A fantastic addition to any collection of Native American basketry, folk art, or rustic farmhouse decor.
