Vintage copy of Mary Roberts Rinehart's Mystery Book, a classic hardcover anthology. Originally compiled and published in 1947 by Rinehart & Company, Inc., this collection features three of the author's most groundbreaking early works that shaped the American mystery genre. This is in good vintage condition. Slip cover has signs of age and wear. In otherwise good vintage condition. Included Novels: The Circular Staircase (1908): Rinehart's wildly successful debut novel. It pioneered the Had-I-But-Known narrative school of mystery and served as the direct basis for her hit stage play, The Bat, which heavily inspired the visual creation of DC Comics' Batman. The Man in Lower Ten (1909): A suspenseful train-car murder mystery featuring a young lawyer caught up in deception, which cemented her early commercial success. The Case of Jennie Brice (1913): A thrilling whodunit set against the backdrop of a flooded Pittsburgh neighborhood, focusing on a missing actress and a blood-stained room. Historical Context: Often referred to as the American Agatha Christie, Mary Roberts Rinehart was actually a household name publishing major bestsellers more than a decade before Christie's debut. She is widely credited with popularizing the structural tropes of modern suspense fiction and inspiring the classic cliché the butler did it (derived from her 1930 novel The Door). This particular 1947 anthology was specially re-edited by Rinehart herself for the compilation release
