Featuring photography by Morley Baer, the book presents sweeping coastal cliffs, rolling hills, forests, rivers, valleys, and open farmland through both black-and-white and color images. The photographs are printed in generous sizes with wide margins, giving the feel of a curated gallery or museum exhibition. The imagery is paired with reflective, literary essays by David Rains Wallace, exploring California’s relationship with wilderness, land use, and history.
