The design reproduces the historic plaque left on the Moon in July 1969, complete with the famous message “We Came in Peace for All Mankind,” maps of Earth, and reproduced signatures of astronauts Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin Jr., along with President Richard Nixon. What makes this piece especially fascinating is its Western Union International inscription commemorating the company's role in televising Apollo 11's triumphant return—a wonderful intersection of space exploration and early satellite communications history. it is a striking display piece for collectors of Apollo 11, NASA, Space Age, telecommunications, astronaut and American history memorabilia. More than half a century later, it remain For the collector who couldn't bring home a souvenir from the Moon…this may be the next best thing.
