This is a rare, original pencil drawing by Riichiro Kawashima, depicting the South Gate of Angkor Thom. The artist's characteristic flowing and delicate touch beautifully captures the majesty and tranquility of the ruins. This is a one-of-a-kind piece with the artist's original signature, making it highly recommended for collectors. It comes framed. While the frame shows signs of age, such as yellowing and stains, the artwork itself is in generally good condition. ▼Dimensions (Artwork) Height: 22 cm Width: 32 cm (Frame) Height: 45 cm Width: 53 cm Depth: 4.5 cm ▼Notes Angkor Thom is a former vast royal capital ruin located within the Angkor archaeological park, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Cambodia. It was built in the late 12th century by Khmer King Jayavarman VII. The South Gate (entrance to Angkor Thom) is a powerful gateway lined with statues of gods and Asuras pulling a Naga (serpent). --------------------- Riichiro Kawashima (1886 - 1971) Born in Ashikaga Town, Ashikaga District, Tochigi Prefecture in 1886. Moved to the United States in 1905, studied at the Corcoran School of Art and other institutions. Moved to Paris in 1911, studied at Académie Julian and other institutions. Worked with the Red Cross alongside Tsuguharu Foujita in Paris during World War I in 1914. Returned to Japan in 1919 after 14 years, via the United States. Held a solo exhibition at Shiseido, then returned to Europe the following year. Participated in the second division of the newly established National Art Creation Association in 1925. Traveled to China in 1934, and subsequently traveled frequently to China and Southeast Asia for his work. Traveled to Europe in 1951, reuniting with Picasso and Matisse. Died in 1971.
