Wonderful circa 1950s Japanese Dragonware salt and pepper shaker set featuring two coordinating ceramic shakers nestled inside their original boat-shaped caddy. The two square shakers are decorated with raised white moriage detailing that forms a dramatic dragon design when the pair is placed together. The dark charcoal/black luster glaze is accented with soft blue, white and metallic bronze-gold details, giving the set the wonderful dimensional look associated with vintage Japanese Dragonware. The fitted ceramic boat caddy is equally decorative, with an elongated curved silhouette, metallic accents and hand-painted detailing. Details Vintage Japanese Dragonware salt & pepper shaker set Two ceramic shakers with coordinating boat-shaped caddy Raised moriage dragon decoration Lusterware / metallic-look glaze Charcoal black, silver-gray, blue, white and bronze-gold tones Original fitted stoppers present Boat measures approximately 6 long Shakers approximately 2.5–3 tall Three-piece set Condition Good vintage condition with age-related wear to the metallic/luster finish, particularly along the shaker tops and portions of the boat's edges and ends. Surface wear, small glaze imperfections and patina are visible throughout and are consistent with age. Please review photos closely for condition. A striking little piece of vintage Japanese ceramic art that displays beautifully even when not being used as salt and pepper shakers.
