This is a Koi Dakki Doll (Koi Hugging Doll) from Akita Prefecture's traditional folk toys. Its simple, charming face is lovely. Each piece is individually handcrafted, from molding and drying to firing and coloring. It is said to have been influenced by Fushimi Dolls from Kyoto in the mid-Edo period and became popular in the Yatsuhashi district of Akita City. Kintaro riding a koi is displayed to wish for a child's health and success in life. It also embodies the wish for them to grow into strong children. The color red has anciently signified warding off evil and has been used in charms to wish for children's good health. The sight of the doll smiling and hugging a koi is utterly heartwarming. It has a strong presence that enhances interior decor, and its simple face brings a sense of peace. ◯ Size (cm) Height 8.5, Width 6, Depth 6 Also available from #Kevin's Room Yamagata Washi Paper Daruma Tiger, Nodding Tiger, Yamagata, Hitachioomiya, Ibaraki, Mask, Paper Mache Mask, Earth Doll, Paper Mache, Folk Craft, Traditional Toy, Antique, Vintage, Brocante, Ornéd'Fay, vintage antique kutani figurines, Feng Shui, Arts and Crafts, Antique Art, Antiques, Buddhist Altar Fittings, Antique Art, Old Tools, Buddhism, Buddha Statue, Buddha, Oriental Art, Amida Nyorai, Tea Ceremony Utensils, Old Tools, Art Gallery, Modernism, Modern Art, Contemporary Art, African Art, Primitive Art, Art, Museum, Art, Mid-Century, Japan Folk Crafts Museum, Cubism, Asian雑貨, Nordic雑貨, American Toy, American雑貨, Showa Retro, Taisho, Meiji, Edo, Romance, Doll, Bisque Doll, Figurine, Figure, Disney, Used Clothing, Bronze Statue, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Fortune, Fortune Telling, Rich, Celebrity, Fire King, Yamagiwa, Arabia, Marimekko, Alessi, alvar aalto, aino aalto, lisa larson, Alvar, SSKK, Iittala Bird, Aalto, Ilmari Tapiovaara, Wegner, Finn Juhl, Gustavsberg, Oiva Toikka, Lisa Larson, Bernard Leach, Sori Yanagi, Takashi Murakami, Arita Ware, Kutani Ware, Old Imari, Imari, Yachimun, Shokoda Ware, Koransha, Seto Novelty, Shigaraki Ware, Mashiko Ware, Daigo Kiln, Kyoyaki, Omuro Ware, Awata Ware, Bizen Ware, Mino Ware, Hasami Ware, Seto Ware, Tamba Ware, Ibushi Ware, Kiyomizu Ware, Kyoyaki, Hakusan Pottery, Bowl, Tea Ware Click here for the manufacturer's site
