Demley Old Snifter Corkscrew and Bottle Opener. Lots of wear to the gold finish consistent with age and being used through the years . the felt on the bottom is very worn and thin. 1930s Prohibition Era Collectible, barware, Based on Mr. Dry a cartoon character created by Rollin Kirby representing Prohibition and Andrew Volstead, Volstead Act . Fun conversational piece . ~ 6.5 inches tall , weighs 248 grams on my kitchen scale or 8.75 ounces nice heavy weight for it's size. Made of some type of metal . Questions are always welcome . The Demley Old Snifter corkscrew and bottle opener was a novelty item produced in the 1930s that capitalized on the cultural shift following the repeal of Prohibition. Designed with a hidden corkscrew in the figure's coat and a bottle opener in its nose and collar, this brass artifact reflects the era's complex relationship with alcohol. While the 1930s saw a return to legal drinking and elaborate cocktail culture, the design also hints at the lingering stigma and secrecy of the previous decade, where hiding liquor or drinking tools was common practice. These items served as both functional bar accessories and humorous conversation pieces during a time when Americans were drowning their economic sorrows in newly legal spirits. quick search on the net explains this piece best . very cool piece and in 4 years soon to be able to be called antique
