Antique lace from around 1880-1900. Charming with the cuteness of a bird spreading its wings and flying energetically, and the chic elegance of floral patterns like orchids. Likely Milanese technique from Italy, or bobbin lace from Belgium or France. Appears on a hand-knitted, small openwork mesh. Beautiful whether viewed diagonally or horizontally. Embroidered edging. The beak, eyes, and wings are meticulously embroidered. Lively and dynamic, a heartwarming and delightful scene that soothes the soul. A wonderful small piece with an artistic presence. Mature floral patterns emerge from the mesh. Appears to be orchids, tulips, crocuses, etc. It might also resemble figures with outstretched arms or performing a vaulting horse. Small flower medallions. The petal-scalloped edge has delicate picot lace. The tone and natural texture are also very appealing. A rich, gentle, and elegant antique cream ivory, with a subtle hint of grayish-khaki. Finely spun linen thread, meticulously and densely knitted stitch by stitch using only needles and bobbins. The thread is smooth and soft, with body and a subtle sheen, offering a refined feel. It has greater strength and durability compared to other lace techniques. There are some areas where thread bundles are unraveled on the bridges, but they are barely noticeable. Please excuse minor imperfections due to its age as a handmade item.
