A slightly unusual, elegant, and cool bonnet made of all Bruges lace, produced around the Victorian era in England (1837-1901), purchased in France. This is a fond de coiffe, a type of hat, cap, or headwear. Beautifully features six- and eight-petaled (chrysanthemum-like) flowers and the shamrock, a three-leaf clover with a flexible stem, known in Ireland/Celtic culture. The design is striking, with swirling vines along the rim and a star-like sparkle within. The cool-looking base with variations in tightness and the openwork eyelets showcase the delicacy woven by bobbin lace craftsmanship. We imagine the material is linen, possibly mixed with cotton. The threads are a mix of medium and fine weights, giving it body, resilience, a slight sheen, and a smooth, flowing texture. As it's not made of ultra-fine threads, it's not overly delicate and can be expected to have good strength and durability. It's an ivory tone with a slight yellow tint. The openwork and spacious lace evokes a sense of coolness and is graceful, carrying the nostalgia of the good old days with elegance and loveliness. The front surface has raised outlines, appearing crisper and more three-dimensional, but the flat back is also beautiful. The difference between the front and back is hard to discern without close inspection. Please excuse any errors in the amateur measurements below for this handmade item. Maximum width: 38 cm Front height: 16 cm, Back height: 12.7 cm Outer circumference: Approx. 83 cm Weight: Approx. 9.8g There are some minor thread tangles at the edges of motifs and bridges, but no major flaws are apparent. There are some areas where the tone is uneven, but they are not noticeable. This is for those who do not mind the characteristics of old handmade items. The lace has been cleaned by a specialist and is in clean condition. It would also be cute placed in a bowl or other container, or worn by large antique bisque dolls, other dolls, or teddy bears.
