Product details Thank you for viewing my Mercari listing. This item is a magnificent four-tiered lacquered jubako (tiered bento box) from the late Edo period, featuring thick, raised genuine gold maki-e (gold lacquer sprinkled on) of cranes and turtles. This is an authentic antique piece, likely used by samurai. Unlike ordinary jubako, this item showcases exceptional craftsmanship with its raised maki-e design on the surface, demonstrating a remarkable level of skill. The crane and turtle motif is exquisitely beautiful, and as an authentic Edo period jubako, it offers a glimpse into its deep historical background. For reference, the approximate dimensions are 33 cm in height and 24 cm in width. Regarding its condition, due to the passage of many years, there are some areas of lacquer peeling and damage. However, even treasured heirlooms from various ancestors, as well as items from daimyo (feudal lords) and high-ranking samurai families, often exhibit wear. Therefore, we kindly ask for your understanding of its nature as an antique. We hope you can appreciate its historical character and the unique charm of an antique. We would be delighted if those interested in this authentic, four-tiered, vermilion lacquered jubako with thick, raised genuine gold maki-e of cranes and turtles from the Edo period could experience its atmosphere firsthand. Thank you.
