This is an owl-shaped incense container made by [Sanuki Master Craftsman] Shinohara Jyosetsu. It is an unused item that has been stored. The width is 4.5cm and the height is approximately 6.5cm. The characters Jyosetsu are carved on the bottom. Shinohara Jyosetsu Born in Kagawa Prefecture in 1919. Studied under the carved lacquer artist Kamata Kazendo in 1933. Moved to Manchuria in 1940, was conscripted, and survived the war. Returned to Japan in 1946. Selected for the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition in 1964. Certified as a full member of the Japan Traditional Crafts Association in 1965. This was a standout piece when I visited his exhibition. It is a valuable representative work that was chosen for a promotional poster for that exhibition, printed on a postcard. I heard the purchase price was 130,000 yen. I will pass it on to someone who will cherish it. It was displayed on a shelf immediately after purchase. It is an unused item. It originally came with a wooden box, but I cannot find it. As it has been displayed over time, there may be some minor scratches. It is in beautiful condition, but please refer to the photos before purchasing. It is also listed on other sites, so please leave a comment. Click here for the manufacturer's site
