CQ Ham Radio's first original external speaker, the HYUGA-01-KIT. I recall that pre-orders were overwhelming, and the kit sold out through pre-orders alone. I also obtained mine through a pre-order and kept it new and unopened in my closet. (The images are product images from that time. The actual item is unopened.) It's highly unlikely that an unopened HYUGA-01 will be listed again. This is definitely a rare item! Features - Uses MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) plywood for speakers. This is a molded board made by bonding wood fibers and compressing them to 1/10th the original size. It is warp-free and uniform, making it ideal for speakers. - High-end Japanese manufacturer speaker specifications. Natural, pleasant sound is achieved by combining sound-absorbing materials. - Designed as a communication speaker, not for music. Easy to listen to, and performs excellently with both SSB and FM. Specifications Speaker Impedance: 8Ω Rated input: 2W Maximum input: 5W Lowest resonant frequency: 400Hz Sound pressure level: 89dB W/m Finished size: 12cm (height) x 12cm (width) x 22cm (depth) (excluding rubber feet) The undeniable selling point is wood. Of course, no matter what anyone says, when considering sound, speakers should be made of wood. However, due to cost and quality issues, wooden speakers were rare in the amateur radio community. So, we asked a woodworking acquaintance for help! Honestly, I thought it might be difficult for a small production run, but they readily agreed! They suggested using speaker-grade MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard). To avoid degrading sound quality with nails or screws, we decided to use dowels and adhesive! Given its size, it has a solid bass response. It produces loud, good sound even without an amplifier. We used a high-quality speaker, so the sound doesn't distort even at high volumes. Most importantly, it produces a pleasant wooden sound. (Original copy from that time) You can enjoy further sound quality variations by adjusting or changing the sound-absorbing material and speaker. A friend used it with a 9R-59DS, and found that SSB clarity improved, and listening for long periods was not fatiguing.
