An ice bucket with a matte black body, a teak collar and swing handle, a cork ball for a knob and a white insulating liner. Three materials, three jobs, no decoration anywhere. The black body is the shell, the teak is the only part your hand touches, and the cork is the only part that goes near the lid when it is hot or cold. Every material is where it is because of what it does, which is the mid century argument in its purest form. The teak is not a style choice either. It is an oily, dense hardwood that resists water without a finish, which is exactly what you want on the one component that gets handled with wet fingers all evening. Danish and American designers of the 1950s and 60s reached for it constantly for that reason, and the vast quantity of teak in mid century furniture is as much about maintenance as looks. The liner is the part that usually goes missing. An ice bucket without its liner is a bucket. This one has it. Home bars have come back, and a period ice bucket that actually works is used rather than shelved. Condition: No cracks in the teak collar or handle. The swing handle pivots correctly. Cork knob is present and firm. The white liner is clean with light staining. Black body shows scattered light scuffing. Lid seats properly. Ships flat rate from Baltimore via FedEx, out the door within the stated handling time. I price shipping by size rather than by scale, since I work from photographs rather than a shipping scale.
