This is a set of 15 cut pieces of the hollow part of horsetail. As these are natural plants, their sizes and lengths may vary, but we will select and send you the straightest ones possible. These are suitable for adjusting reeds for saxophone, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and traditional Japanese instruments. They are organically grown without pesticides, so you can use them with peace of mind. They are said to be ideal for tasks such as lightly shaving and thinning reeds. Because horsetail is cylindrical and thin, it is easy to see the part you are shaving and allows for precise work. Furthermore, it does not produce shavings. With sandpaper, even if cut small, the part to be shaved can be hidden, making precise shaving difficult. Also, don't shavings stick to the reed after shaving? With horsetail, when shaving a damp reed, it is said that you can shave a little, test it by blowing, and then shave again while the reed is attached to the mouthpiece. This also seems to prevent over-shaving. We have experience and a proven track record in horsetail production, but we are not experts in reed adjustment. Therefore, please search online for actual usage methods. In addition to reed adjustment, some customers have used it for carving seals for calligraphy, finishing tea scoops for tea ceremony, and polishing the saya (scabbard) of Japanese swords. Depending on the season and dryness, the color may be brown. We can also accept large orders. In such cases, please consult with us in advance regarding the quantity and price.
