Ihai (Memorial Tablet) - 5寸 (approx. 5 inches) Height: 25.3 cm (approx. 10 inches) Width: 12 cm (approx. 4.7 inches) Base Height: 15 cm (approx. 5.9 inches) 12 An Ihai is a Buddhist implement used to enshrine and honor the spirit of an individual. It is considered an important item for ancestral veneration. The posthumous Buddhist name (Kaimyo) is inscribed on the front of the Ihai. Even without a Kaimyo, an Ihai can be made with the deceased's secular name (Zokumyo) by adding 之霊位 (no reii) after the name. This is considered to have the same meaning as receiving a Kaimyo. If you wish for the Kaimyo and other details to be handwritten, we will do so free of charge. Please refer to the last image for examples. After your purchase, please provide the Kaimyo you wish to have handwritten, the posthumous Buddhist title (e.g., Koji for men, Daishi for women), the date of death, the secular name (full name), and the age at death. We will then handwrite these details for you free of charge. Of course, you are also welcome to purchase the Ihai alone. We will also handwrite the date of death, secular name (full name), and age at death free of charge. In the Kanto region, the Kaimyo and date of death are inscribed on the front of the Ihai, and the secular name and age at death are inscribed on the back. In the Tokai and western Japan regions, only the Kaimyo is inscribed on the front of the Ihai, and the secular name and age at death are inscribed on the back. There are regional differences. If you already have an ancestral Ihai, it is customary to create the new one with the same layout. Click here for the manufacturer's site
