This is an extremely rare five-bead abacus, bearing the stamp of the Otsu Marine Products Wholesale Commercial Association. Although it is an older style from before the early Showa period, it is in exceptionally beautiful condition, appearing almost unused and preserved as it was at the time, with very little wear on the beads or dirt from use. The wood grain is remarkably vibrant, and an abacus with this many beads in such excellent condition is rarely seen on the market. The original paper box (Seisen Gozanban - Select Abacus) is included. While the box has significant damage and tears due to age, it will be sent along with the abacus to protect it and serve as a testament to its history. Approximate dimensions: Width 29cm x Height 11cm x Depth 3cm This is a superb item with historical value, perfect for collectors of antique office supplies, stationery, and old tools, as well as those interested in the history of Shiga Prefecture and Omi merchants. Beyond its practical use, it exudes first-class style as a display piece for a traditional Japanese cafe, shop counter, or Japanese-style room. While it is in near dead-stock condition, we are looking for buyers who understand that this is a vintage item from several decades ago, acknowledge the damage to the outer box, and will cherish it. We offer free shipping, anonymous delivery, and will ship promptly within 24 hours. Please feel free to ask any questions or request additional images. Click here for the manufacturer's site
