# Okinawa Start - Fruits and Vegetables Tap above to see all fruits. ◆ We imagine everyone is looking forward to the flowering and fruiting of the banana seedlings they've purchased. We've heard that the peak summer heat on the mainland can reach 40 degrees Celsius. It's hard to imagine how well bananas, which are native to tropical regions, will grow. Flowering gives no prior warning. One day, a large flower, like a dinosaur's beak, will suddenly appear, and within a few days, bananas will start to form in clusters of 5, 8, or 10 tiers. This joy is immeasurable. ◆ Are you prepared for bagging your bananas? The biggest benefit of bagging is increased sweetness. This is it. With ripening, fertilizer, and bagging, the sweetness will increase even further, and harvesting after flowering will be quicker. Next is pest and disease prevention. Given how sweet bananas smell, insect damage is unavoidable. If you have 10 tiers, with 100 bananas, it's too much for a household to eat. When sharing, it's a bit concerning if they are covered in scratches and insect bites. I searched for large banana bags, similar to those used for pears, grapes, and apples, on Amazon, and found them for 2439 yen for 10 bags (excluding shipping, which was a shocking price). My hobby is growing seedlings, and I rarely let the mother plants fruit much, so I have some spare banana bags. We can deliver a set of 10 bags via Nekoposu airmail. For reference, I've included images of scratched bananas grown by amateurs and high-priced bananas from high-end supermarkets that have been bagged. Banana bags are essential for harvesting bananas without pesticides. Like grapes, pears, and peaches, banana fruits are susceptible to insects, diseases, and mold from rain. Therefore, these bags are used for sharing or selling bananas. ◆Finally: If you don't bag your bananas at home, they will stand out, and they will be stolen in the middle of the night. For 100 bananas = 10 tiers = 20kg of fruit, the value in mainland Japan is 20,000 to 40,000 yen, so theft is rampant. Once they steal from you, they will do it again the following year. I've had mine stolen many times. It's incredibly frustrating. It takes over 3 months from fruiting to harvest for bananas. Everyone wants to steal them. Even if planted in your garden, they can be stolen at night. To successfully harvest, enjoy eating them with a smile, and proudly share them with others, while perhaps not needing security cameras, banana bags might be a good idea. #Banana Click here for the manufacturer's site
