Thank you for viewing. This listing is for 2 seedlings of Hime Ukogi from Yonezawa City, Yamagata Prefecture, as shown in Photo 2. These seedlings were propagated by cuttings last year and have well-established roots. Ukogi is a traditional vegetable known in Yonezawa City, Yamagata Prefecture, as an edible hedge. [About Hime Ukogi] It is said that in the Edo period, Lord Takayoshi Uesugi recommended planting ukogi as hedges, stating that the thorns provide security, and it can also be used as emergency food. This led to the planting of ukogi in this region. The variety eaten in Yonezawa is called Hime Ukogi, and its young shoots (March-June) and young leaves (May-September) are used. It was originally brought to Japan for medicinal purposes, but due to its hardiness and ability to grow in barren land, it came to be planted in gardens and as hedges. It has a refreshing, slightly bitter taste and can be prepared in various ways, making it a popular ingredient in local cuisine such as tempura, ohitashi (blanched greens), kiri-ae (dressed salad), and ukogi rice. Ukogi is rich in calcium, iron, and vitamin C, and also contains vitamin B2. [Shipping Information] The seedlings will be removed from their pots, the soil lightly removed, and then moisturized for shipping via YuYu Mercari便. Please note that leaves and roots may be trimmed for packaging, and dead leaves or insects may be present. Your understanding is appreciated. Delivery is generally expected within 1 to 2 days after shipment. ?? If your delivery address is in a remote area, such as an island, delivery may take several days to a week. ?? We cannot guarantee the growth of the plants. Shipping will be simplified using recycled materials. These are plants grown by an amateur in a home garden. Insects may be present. There is a possibility that branches or leaves may break during delivery, but we cannot be held responsible. Please understand. Plants change daily, so their condition is not always as shown. We ask for your understanding before purchasing. As these are amateur-grown plants, please refrain from purchasing if you are looking for perfection. I work during the day, so it may take time to respond to comments or ship items. Thank you for your understanding before purchasing. #UkogiSeedling #HimeUkogiSeedling #姫ウコギ苗 #Hedge Click here for the manufacturer's site
