Oregon Spine Splint II A spinal immobilization splint used for transporting patients suspected of spinal (backbone) injuries. Primarily used in emergency, rescue, fire fighting, mountain rescue, and military fields. Basic Overview • Manufacturer: Skedco, Inc. • Name: Oregon Spine Splint II (Abbreviation: OSS II) • Main Use: A fixation device for transporting the entire spine (cervical to lumbar) without movement after cervical spine immobilization (after wearing a cervical collar). Features 1. Lightweight and Compact Storage • Foldable design, can be stored in portable rescue bags. • Flexible internal board and straps conform to the body's shape. 2. Assists in Full Body Immobilization • Provides integrated fixation for the upper body (head, chest, and waist), which is insufficient with a cervical collar alone. • Straps securely fix the chest, pelvis, and thighs. 3. Designed for Rescue Scenes • Particularly effective in confined transport spaces such as ski patrols, mountain rescues, and vehicle accidents. • Also used for initial immobilization before transferring to a spine board. 4. Reusable • Made of washable and disinfectable nylon material. • High strength and durable for long-term use. Usage (Overview) 1. First, immobilize the cervical spine (cervical collar). 2. Insert the OSS II behind the patient's back. 3. Secure with chest, pelvic, and leg straps. 4. Attach head support and secure with straps. 5. Transfer the patient to a stretcher or spine board.
