🌉 What you’re getting: A beautifully hand-tinted color postcard titled “Finland. Bridge from Haparanda to Torneå” — a remarkable perspective looking down a long wooden plank bridge spanning the Torne River, with telegraph poles lining the crossing and the Finnish town of Torneå visible on the far bank. A lone figure walks the bridge, adding wonderful human scale. 🗺️ Historical significance: This bridge literally connected Sweden (Haparanda) to Finland (Torneå/Tornio) across the Torne River — one of the most historically significant border crossings in Northern Europe. During WWI, this crossing became the only neutral route between Western Europe and Russia, making it a vital diplomatic and spy corridor — adding extraordinary historical depth to this image! 🖨️ Publisher: Printed by Axel Eliassons Konstförlag, Stockholm — card no. 7043 — Sweden’s leading producer of postcards during the first half of the 20th century, founded in 1890. ✉️ Condition: Unused — completely blank back with no writing or stamp. Light age toning consistent with 115+ years. The front bridge scene retains lovely color with excellent perspective depth. 🌟 Great for: Finnish AND Swedish postcard collectors, Nordic border history enthusiasts, WWI history buffs, bridge and infrastructure collectors, and Axel Eliassons series specialists — this card appeals to collectors on both sides of the border!
