Vintage Postwar Lionel No. 252 Automatic Crossing Gate - Complete with Original Box Up for purchase is a classic piece of postwar model railroading history: the authentic Lionel No. 252 Automatic Crossing Gate. Manufactured in the United States during the golden postwar era of the 1950s, this accessory is an essential addition for adding action to an O gauge or 027 layout grade crossing. When wired into an insulated track section or pressure-sensing track trip, a passing train triggers a solenoid inside the housing. This drops the cream-and-black hazard-striped gate arm down across the roadway while illuminating the dual red warning lamps to stop scale traffic. Once the caboose passes, the integrated rear counterweight smoothly returns the arm to its upright vertical position.
