Up for sale is a stunning curated lot of four vintage Russian lacquer boxes from the prestigious artisan schools of Palekh and Kholuy. Hand-crafted on traditional papier-mâché, these collector pieces feature magnificent miniature paintings with highly polished finishes and brilliant gold leaf ornamentation. Lot Includes: Large Palekh Box: Features a detailed traditional village celebration and dance scene. Authentically hand-signed by the prominent historical Palekh artist Zubov (Зубов). Includes original workshop serial numbers. Measures approx. 7.5 x 3.75. Medium Kholuy Box (The Hussar): Depicts a romantic folk scene titled Gusar (Гусар) with a cavalry soldier and a village girl. Signed by artist A. Tsykalov (А. Цыкалов). Measures approx. 4 x 4. Small Kholuy Box: Depicts the famous Russian fairy tale Konek-Gorbunok (The Little Humpbacked Horse). Signed with initials N.A. (Н.А.). Measures approx. 2.25 x 2.25. Miniature Box: Charming accent piece with a fine lacquer-transfer print of a traditional women's circle dance. Measures approx. 2 x 1.5. Condition Report: Three boxes are in excellent vintage condition with gorgeous high-gloss finishes. The medium Kholuy box (The Hussar) has a lacquer chip on the bottom-left corner rim of the lid, exposing the papier-mâché base. This minor vintage wear does not affect the top artwork (see close-up photos). Shipped securely with tracking.
