Elegant set of six Saji Fine China demitasse cups and saucers in a vibrant periwinkle blue with hand-painted Rococo courting couple medallions and lavish gilt decoration throughout. Each piece features a white reserved panel depicting a gentleman and lady in a garden setting, framed by intricate gold fern and wreath motifs on the blue ground. Saji Fine China, a respected mid-century Japanese manufacturer, produced fine porcelain in the tradition of European court styles - this Courting Couple motif reflects the Fragonard-inspired romantic scenes that defined the era's finest tableware. The elongated cup form with scrolled gold handle and scalloped saucer with shell molding are hallmarks of the pattern. Condition: Very good. No chips or cracks observed. Minor age-appropriate wear to gilt on handles and rims on some cups. Saucers show light surface marks. - Maker: Saji Fine China, Japan - Pattern: Courting Couple, blue ground - Quantity: 6 cups + 6 saucers (12 pieces) - Cup: 3 Height x 2 3/8 Diameter - Saucer: 4 7/8 diameter - Era: Mid-20th century (c. 1945-1960s) - Mark: Crown / Saji Fine China A wonderful set for a collector or an elegant tea or espresso service.
