The body shows visible hand carving and tool marks, along with a nicely aged surface and worn paint that give it authentic rustic appeal. The tail features a large hand painted X marking, which may have been used as a hunter identification mark when the decoy was part of a hunting rig. The shape and form resemble a diving duck such as a Canvasback or Redhead, common species used in decoy spreads across the Mississippi Flyway. Decoys like this were often carved by local hunters and used on rivers and lakes throughout the Midwest. The bottom of the decoy is covered with felt, likely added later when the decoy was used as decorative display to protect surfaces. This is common with older decoys that transitioned from hunting use to cabin or lodge decor. These primitive working decoys are popular with collectors of hunting memorabilia, folk art carvings, and rustic cabin decor. Condition Good vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use. Paint shows natural wear and patina. Surface wear and small imperfections are present from age and handling. Please review photos for full condition details. Hand carved wooden decoy Primitive folk art style Canvasback or Redhead diving duck form Possible hunter identification mark on tail Low profile working decoy body style
