Vintage 1970s studio-art belt buckle featuring a dramatic biomorphic openwork design formed from clustered, molten-looking metal droplets. The sculptural web-like composition is often described as a spore or organic Brutalist motif and reflects the experimental artisan metalwork associated with the period. The buckle has a substantial, solid-cast feel rather than a lightweight stamped construction. Its warm brass or bronze tone is enhanced by deep natural patina and dark oxidation in the recessed areas, which add depth and emphasize the irregular handmade texture. The design is reminiscent of California Brutalist studio metalwork from the Jack Boyd era; however, the buckle is unsigned and unhallmarked, so no specific artist attribution is being made. Details: Era: 1970s Style: Brutalist / Biomorphic / Modernist / Studio Art Design: Organic spore / web motif Material: Solid cast brass or bronze-tone metal Color: Antiqued gold tone Gender: Unisex Measurements: Approximately 2.5 W x 1.5 H Fits belt width: Up to approximately 1.25 inches Maker: Unsigned / unmarked Condition: Excellent vintage condition with age-appropriate patina, dark oxidation and minor surface wear. The buckle has not been polished, preserving its original aged finish. The reverse bar and prong assembly are present and secure.
