This is a rare antique inkstick called Shogen made by Nanshoen. This is a vintage item manufactured in 1968, and it is unused and in beautiful condition! The packaging has significant signs of age-related wear. Name: Shogen (書源) Manufacturer: Nanshoen (a long-established ink maker in Nara, descended from Kobaien) Label: Supervised by Nanshoen Side Engraving: Supervised by Nanshoen Product Number?: S.43 (believed to indicate Showa 43) Size: Approximately 13cm x 3cm x 1.2cm (standard 1-cho-gata) Condition: Unused, with natural aging patina (see photos) Made with aged glue unique to antique inksticks, it grinds very smoothly and produces beautiful gradations of ink density ♪ Perfect for calligraphy, Japanese painting, and sumi-e! Also recommended as a collector's item. It has a pleasant aroma and is soothing just to grind. Feel free to ask any questions in the comments.
