This is an unused genuine Biwa wooden sword purchased from a martial arts equipment store. Due to a shortage of craftsmen and the rarity of materials on the market, it is difficult to obtain enough wood from a single board to make a large sword. Therefore, genuine Biwa wooden swords are rarely seen on the market today. While genuine Biwa swords are often light, weighing around 400g, a heavy wooden sword like this one is extremely rare. A heavier sword means higher mass, which directly translates to quality. Most stores do not keep these in stock, and orders are either suspended or have an indefinite delivery time. Even if you could order one, you would pay over 100,000 yen with no guarantee of the final product. It is highly advantageous to purchase a wooden sword that is already available, as finding a genuine Biwa wooden sword weighing in the high 500g range is uncommon. This is an unused genuine Biwa wooden sword that will be increasingly difficult to obtain in the future, and its future value is unknown. Genuine Biwa wood is sometimes listed at auctions, but it is difficult to distinguish from camellia wood, and many items have unclear origins, so caution is advised when purchasing. This item comes from a clear source, so you can purchase it with confidence. (As a tip for discerning buyers: camellia wood often has uniform grain, while Biwa wood frequently has a wavy grain. The dynamic grain undulation seen in this item is characteristic of Biwa wood.) This item is a work personally crafted by master craftsman Yasuo Aramaki from Miyakonojo, Miyazaki Prefecture, and his signature is engraved on the hilt. Mr. Aramaki is considered the highest caliber wooden sword craftsman in Japan and is highly respected even by other craftsmen in Miyakonojo. The shape is a wooden sword with a sword tip (Jyu-gata), a semi-round head, and a large point. The grain is fine, and the color is a calm white. The length is 101.5cm, and the weight is 573g with excellent balance and no warping. This item was not originally shipped in shrink film, so it is sold in its innocence state (oil-polished). As this is not an urgent listing, we are not considering price reductions. We are patiently waiting for a buyer who understands the value of this rare item. Click here for the manufacturer's site
