This wooden hibachi, believed to be from the early Showa period, is made of paulownia wood. Its simple yet stable design, utilizing a thick wooden body, is powerfully enhanced by the bold and strong grain patterns that appear across its entire exterior. The true charm of this hibachi lies in its ability to stand on its own through the natural expression of the material, without relying on ornamentation. The interior is finished with copper lining, a traditional hibachi structure of the era composed solely of wood and copper. The combination of lightweight, highly insulating paulownia wood and durable copper creates a design that is both practical and aesthetically pleasing. Multiple ink markings, appearing to be numbers and symbols, can be found on the bottom and inner sides. These are not artist signatures or kiln marks, but are thought to be workshop management notations for production processes or individual item tracking, suggesting careful craftsmanship within a division of labor system. Originally used as a hibachi or hand warmer, this piece is also well-suited for modern interior use, such as an objet d'art in a Japanese modern space, antique furniture for traditional homes or shops, or as a planter cover. Its bold grain and calm presence will bring a natural sense of grounding and warmth to any space. [Size] Outer dimensions: Width approx. 35cm x Depth approx. 35cm x Height approx. 21cm Inner dimensions: Width approx. 24.5cm x Depth approx. 24.5cm Depth: approx. 15cm [Condition] While there are signs of use and color changes in the copper due to age, these are within the natural range for an antique folk tool that has passed through time. There are no major cracks or critical damages. The wooden parts have been maintained. This hibachi, with its excellent material, construction, and atmosphere, allows you to feel the unique charm of the early Showa period. This authentic early Showa-era Japanese hibachi is crafted from paulownia wood and copper, showcasing bold natural grain and traditional Japanese craftsmanship.
