Thank you for viewing. Price reduced. 1800 yen → 1300 yen This round tray features a beautiful red flower motif delicately painted in the center of the black lacquer finish. The sides are elegantly adorned with decorative turning by a skilled woodturner. This lacquerware is made in the Yamanaka Onsen area of Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture, and is also known as Yamanaka lacquerware. Yamanaka has a long history of woodturners, and it boasts the largest production volume in Japan for turned woodenware. A key characteristic of Yamanaka lacquerware, which utilizes wood grain to express a natural texture, is the tatekitori (vertical wood cutting) method, where the shape of the vessel is formed in the direction the tree grew. This results in robust lacquerware that is resistant to warping due to drying. Through decorative turning, such as sensuji (thousand-line) and arasuji (rough-line) patterns applied to the wood, Yamanaka lacquerware is born with unique attention to detail. Size: Diameter 21cm (large enough to hold one or two teacups) Above all, it is very lightweight and a convenient size for carrying. This is an unused item, but as the paper packaging has been opened, it is listed as near unused. We ask for your understanding when purchasing. Click here for the manufacturer's site
