This flute is made to the same specifications as the Shishida and Maruyama Shinobue flutes. Most beginners can produce low notes, but struggle with high notes or the pii sound. Many are unsure if their current flute is properly made. This flute was created based on feedback from instructors across various regions, prioritizing ease of producing high notes, clear resonance of upper harmonics, and affordability. For beginners, it is recommended to start with an affordable flute and practice until you can produce upper and upper-upper harmonics. Then, visit a shop, try playing different flutes, and purchase one that suits you. (Some flutes may look good but lack upper-upper harmonic resonance.) It is also said that progress is faster if you start lessons once you can produce some notes. To prioritize ease of playing, resonance, and affordability, there may be minor imperfections such as scratches, natural shapes, patterns, or slight bends. A 10mm ball is shown in the image for reference of hole size. Thickness: Approximately 21.5mm at the mouthpiece. Length: Approximately 43.9cm. Mouthpiece opening: Approximately 14.5mm. Thickness: Slightly thicker. (Thicker flutes have better low-note resonance, while thinner flutes have better upper-upper harmonic resonance.) Wall thickness: 2.5 on a scale of 5. (Thicker walls improve upper-upper harmonic resonance and overall sound, while thinner walls make the flute easier to play.) Pitch: Approximately 5.5 to just under 6 notes. Range: Clear resonance from low tones (Ro-on) up to the 5th upper-upper harmonic. What is Yakitake (Roasted Bamboo)? This is the material among Shinobue bamboo that produces the best resonance. Roasting bamboo thoroughly until the inside makes it harder and improves its resonance. However, it is difficult to process due to the scarcity of suitable materials. Making it naturally further enhances its resonance. Bamboo grows by competing for sunlight. Therefore, bamboo that wins this competition for light is ideal for flutes. (We have been researching physics utilizing natural principles for many years and can identify bamboo that meets these conditions.) What is Tou-nuri (Translucent Lacquer) finish? Since pigments are not used in the lacquer, the flute is easier to play. Furthermore, by carving grooves inside and allowing the lacquer to soak in, it becomes even easier to play and improves resonance. Please note: Upper and upper-upper harmonics are produced very easily. When blowing strongly, please ensure there are no people around. Special care should be taken with small children, the elderly, individuals with disabilities, and those who are not feeling well.
