Product details A master, holding their right hand above, is believed to have blown into this shakuhachi over an immense period of time!

Clear finger marks are visible on the upper right hand side of the four holes, and the finger holes are worn to an extent that would not be achieved even after decades of use!

With finger holes approximately 12mm in diameter, this is an extremely resonant long-form shakuhachi, unimaginable from such a shallow mouthpiece.

Although unmarked, its extensive use, the black sheen of the old bamboo, and its overall condition indicate that this is an exceptionally rare and valuable antique shakuhachi!

    1 shaku 8 sun (D tuning).
Approximately 545mm in length, weighing approximately 320g.

This instrument was exclusively used for honkyoku (traditional solo shakuhachi music).
Its sound does not get lost even when played outdoors.

    Sound production has been confirmed!

    [Sound]
It produces a powerful, booming sound with a deep tone!

The inner diameter is wide enough for fingers to easily enter from the end of the shakuhachi, allowing for effortless blowing and surprisingly little fatigue.

Yet, it resonates with a deep, strong sound mixed with a slightly muffled, rough tone.

While its timbre is completely different from modern shakuhachi, this explosive resonance is truly unique!

    [Crack Prevention]
There are vertical lines on the right side of the mouthpiece and above the fifth hole, but they are only on the surface and have closed.

There are no issues with the sound, and all notes, including Otsu no Ro, play clearly.

    [Mouthpiece]
Appears to be made of water buffalo horn.
It's truly mysterious how such a shallow mouthpiece can produce such a powerful sound!

    [Joint Decoration]
    This is a long-form shakuhachi!
Touching the inside of the mouthpiece reveals the texture of the bamboo, suggesting it is a half-ji nashi (without lacquer lining) shakuhachi, with the upper part being ji nashi and the lower part having minimal ji. The bozu-ne (rounded end) is also very cool and antique.

This is a rare, resonating antique shakuhachi that an ancient master likely dedicated their life to blowing into!
