Karaki Ihai (Wooden Buddhist Tablet) - Purple Sandalwood, Deluxe Cat-Ear Style, 5.0 inch - Free Handwritten Inscription - For Buddhist Altars Height: 24.2 cm / Width: 11.0 cm ★ Buddhist tablets are sacred objects used to enshrine and honor the spirits of individuals. They are considered important for ancestral veneration. The Buddhist name (Kaimyo) is inscribed on the front of the tablet. Even without a Buddhist name, a tablet can be created using the deceased's secular name (Zokumyo) as a suitable Buddhist name by adding 之霊位 (no reii) after it. Adding 之霊位 (no reii) after the secular name is considered to have the same meaning as receiving a Buddhist name. If you wish to have the Buddhist name or other details handwritten, we will do so with care and free of charge, rather than using a machine. Please refer to the last image for examples. After winning the auction, please provide the Buddhist name and posthumous title (e.g., Koji for males, Daishi for females), the date of death, the secular name (full name), and the age at death. We will then hand-write the inscription for free. Of course, you are also welcome to purchase the tablet without inscription. We will also hand-write the date of death, secular name (full name), and age at death for free. In the Kanto region, the Buddhist name and date of death are inscribed on the front of the tablet, and the secular name and age at death are inscribed on the back. In the Tokai and western Japan regions, only the Buddhist name is inscribed on the front, and the secular name and date of death are inscribed on the back. There are regional differences. If you already have ancestral tablets, they are often made to match that layout. ★ About this Buddhist tablet This is a Purple Sandalwood (Shitan) Buddhist tablet, considered one of the highest quality woods for such items. Purple sandalwood is a wood produced in East Asia and is not found in Japan. It is one of the world's three major karaki woods, is very expensive, and has been used as a high-grade wood since ancient times. Buddhist tablets made from purple sandalwood or ebony are considered high-class tablets. It is a deep wine-colored, high-quality wood, most commonly seen in the karaki wood crafts found in the Shosoin Imperial Treasury, and has been treasured as a top-grade material since ancient times. Its gentle wine color matches well with Buddhist altars, making it popular among women. Purple sandalwood is indeed a popular wood for Buddhist tablets, especially for women. This popularity is also a factor in why many women choose to have their tablets made from purple sandalwood. Click here for the manufacturer's site Easy to find furniture and interiors!
