Thank you for viewing. This is a handmade tea caddy (copper or brass) from Tokyo Kaikado, featuring a hammered pattern and double-wall construction, an antique item. Distinct from Kyoto's Kaikado, this Tokyo Kaikado tea caddy, known only to connoisseurs, is a masterpiece for the discerning. I believe it holds value as an antique art piece that carries on history. [Product Description] This is a handmade, high-quality tea caddy bearing the Kaikado name, said to have been crafted by skilled artisans in Tokyo in the past. While drawing from the lineage of Kyoto's Kaikado, this tea caddy uniquely uses the character 花 (hana - flower) in its stamp, making it an extremely rare and valuable item that seldom appears on the market today. ■ Features and Craftsmanship ? Kaikado Stamp: This special stamp, reminiscent of history, features the character 花 (flower), said to represent the blooming of tea flowers, rather than the 化 (ka - civilization) from the era of Bunmei Kaika (Meiji Restoration). ? Exterior (Brass or Copper): Over many years, it has aged to a deep amber color that cannot be artificially created. The hammered pattern by the artisan creates beautiful shadows depending on the light. Pattern Features ? Arara (Hailstone) Pattern / Kiku-dashi (Chrysanthemum Bloom): This pattern, where small dots gather to form circles or flower-like shapes, is meticulously hammered one by one with specialized chisels and hammers. ? It serves not only as mere decoration but also practically by increasing the surface area for a non-slip effect, enhancing the metal's strength, and making fingerprints and minor scratches less noticeable. Points Reflecting the Artisan's Dedication There are subtle variations in the placement of the pattern and the depth of the hammering. This is proof of hand-hammering, and it creates a sparkling, glittering effect through light reflection, a time-consuming decoration often found on high-quality tea caddies. ? Interior (Tin): Double-wall construction using silver-colored tin. This design is filled with the artisan's wisdom to preserve the freshness and aroma of tea leaves. ■ Product Condition We have intentionally refrained from excessive cleaning, leaving the beautiful luster and color that are testaments to the time this tea caddy has experienced. We wish to pass it on to someone who understands the profound texture unique to metal and appreciates true quality. ■ Size Height: Approx. 10cm Width: Diameter Approx. 9cm ■ To Those Considering Purchase This Kaikado tea caddy is not just a tool but a piece of craftsmanship that conveys a lost artisan culture. We hope to connect with someone who will cherish it for a long time and continue to nurture its patina. Click here for the manufacturer's site
