This is a hand-embroidered decorative piece removed from a traditional Miao ethnic group garment from Guizhou. All are embroidered with silk thread using the ping xiu (flat embroidery) technique, meticulously finished over one month. These are vintage fabric parts, approximately 30 years old, that were used for Miao festivals and formal attire. The motifs are Prosperous Flowers (繁花) and Butterflies (蝶)— The large, blooming flowers represent abundance, the joy of life, and the expansion of good fortune. The butterflies dancing on both sides symbolize freedom, beauty, good relationships, and the arrival of happiness.
