LION Nib Silk (Spoon Nib) Engraved with FUKUI IND CO E-F LION MADE IN JAPAN. This is a listing for 20 pieces. The newm (aluminum) is tin-plated and will turn black due to rubbing, but it is not rust. I also enjoy calligraphy, and I love this LION newm nib for its comfortable writing feel. This was a popular nib that was ranked among the top 4 recommended dip pens for penmanship practice. The Silk is a newm-colored spoon nib. Newm color: This is a fine-point type processed with aluminum. It is softer and smoother than chrome-colored nibs. Furthermore, the newm color is characterized by less ink blotting and strong wear resistance. It is easy for beginners to handle and produces a mellow line, making it a popular nib among enthusiasts. While spoon nibs (kabura nibs) make it difficult to vary line thickness in penmanship practice and do not produce lines with the variation of a brush pen, this nib has smooth opening and closing and allows for relatively easy variation in line thickness. The line thickness can also be varied further depending on the angle of the pen. This is a recommended nib for both beginners and experienced users. Also, while I enjoy calligraphy myself, among the stiffly made pens like kabura nibs and Nihonji nibs, this one has a slightly softer feel and is suitable for those with average or lighter writing pressure. Therefore, those who press hard may experience faster wear. ◆About the Nib Manufacturer◆ LION nibs were produced by the office equipment company LION, but they are no longer manufactured. These are nibs from a brand that will eventually disappear. The Japanese nib brands currently available are Tachikawa, Nikko, and Zebra. Nikko brand was inherited by Tachikawa, so there are only two manufacturers: Tachikawa and Zebra. There are stories that older products have better performance. Nibs: The number of factory workers, which was once large, has drastically decreased, and it seems that many workers involved in mass production during that era had high skills. I have heard stories that products from that time are better, but please take this as a reference. Newm colored nibs may turn black due to rubbing against each other during storage, but I have heard that the performance does not change due to plating peeling.
