This is an item called a Kakusode Coat.
It is a traditional overcoat that has been popular since the Meiji era. Its characteristic feature is its large rectangular sleeves, designed to accommodate the square sleeves (tamoto) unique to Japanese clothing.
The collar is a stand-up collar (folded collar), and the style is similar to Western coats with buttons lined up on the front.
It is used as outerwear to wear over a kimono for warmth, but recently, its modern silhouette has led some people to wear it with Western clothing.
It is often made of sturdy materials such as wool blends and is suitable for warmth from winter to early spring.
