Novel fire-extinguisher shaped metal cocktail shaker, “Thirst Extinguisher,” made in Japan and equipped with a wind-up music box that plays a classic tune when lifted — a playful bar décor conversation piece. This chrome-finished vintage barware item takes the form of a fire-extinguisher canister embossed with the wording: “THIRST EXTINGUISHER … DISPENSE FREELY FOR BEST RESULTS … TO REFILL CALL YOUR HOST … APPROVED BY UNDERWRITERS FIRE CHIEFS … KEEP AVAILABLE FOR EMERGENCY.” The top twists off to allow ice and drink-mix, and the spout features a small chromed screw cap for dispensing — highly functional and novelty in one. When you lift the shaker, a spring-loaded rod on the base releases and a built-in music box mechanism plays (often cited as the tune “How Dry I Am”). The body is marked “Japan,” confirming export manufacture likely mid-20th century — aligning with known examples listed online. Size: Approximately 9.75″ tall × 3.5″ diameter (the spout is in addition to the diameter). Condition: Chrome/metaled body shows light surface wear consistent with vintage use. The music-box mechanism functions (winds and plays when lifted). The internal gasket dried out and cracked (recommend replacement with a food-safe rubber canning gasket approx. 2.2″ diameter). The spout cap is present and screws securely. Marked “Japan” on base. No major dents or structural damage; functional and display-ready.
