This is a Quena (G tube) from Quena Studio Pino in Sayama City, Saitama Prefecture. The material is Peruvian bamboo. This bamboo has many fibers, which may be why the sound is soft and the high notes are not shrill. I have been making quenas for 30 years and have recently received orders from professional quena players such as Ilich Montesiños and Daisuke Watanabe of MAYA. A feature of Pino quenas is that they undergo a process of baking the inside of the bamboo, a technique not mastered by any other quena maker in Japan, which makes them resistant to insect damage and pitch changes over time. This process was taught to me at a quena workshop in Peru. The actual color is darker than in the photos. Product Information: Overall length (37.5cm), Outer diameter (28mm), Inner diameter (20mm), Wall thickness (4mm), Maximum finger hole diameter (12.5mm), Mouthpiece width (10mm), Mouthpiece depth (9.5mm), Weight (65g), Pitch 442Hz (individual differences may apply). The low notes are rich and the high notes up to the third octave are easily produced. ✳️Quena Studio Pino does not sell on any other sites.
