Thank you for viewing. This is a vintage Japanese wooden writing bureau, estimated to have been produced around the early Showa period to pre-war era (circa 1930). Judging by its structure, materials, and hardware, it is a very old piece, likely a functional piece of furniture actually used in Japanese homes and shops of that time. It is a valuable item that conveys the historical context, possibly having been used even during the war. When the upper flap is opened, it can be used as a desk, and the interior features a practical structure with partitioned shelves for documents and small drawers. The lower section has sliding door storage and drawers, making it versatile as both a study desk and storage furniture. Made primarily of solid wood, it possesses a substantial feel not found in modern mass-produced furniture, and its wood grain, deepened by the passage of many years, is captivating. It blends naturally into any space, whether Japanese or Western in style. The wood has been maintained with orange oil specifically for wooden products (for moisturizing, cleaning, reducing minor scratches, and polishing). This reduces the dryness characteristic of vintage items and brings out a natural luster. While there are scuffs, paint cracks, and signs of use consistent with its age, there is no significant structural damage, and it is in good condition as an antique piece of furniture.
