Murakami Tishu Tea Saucers Tea Ceremony Utensils, Sencha Tea Utensils These are Murakami Tishu tea saucers. Murakami Tishu is one of Japan's leading lacquer crafts, produced in Murakami City, Niigata Prefecture, and is said to have originated from a side job for samurai. Unlike Chinese Tishu, which carves and shapes thickly layered lacquer, Murakami Tishu employs a technique where the wood base is carved first, and then lacquer is applied layer by layer. For this reason, while the carving marks of Chinese Tishu are sharp-angled, Murakami Tishu has rounded corners, giving it a softer impression. This item is decorated with fully bloomed peony flowers around the edges. The lacquer is in good condition, and although it is a small piece, it encapsulates the charm of Murakami Tishu. Size Diameter: 120 mm Height: 20 mm There are no scratches or chips. No box. Thank you for your consideration. Click here for the manufacturer's site
