Authentic Ojiya Chijimi When it comes to half collars for midsummer, hemp gauze is undoubtedly the top choice. This is a half collar made from authentic Ojiya Chijimi, produced in Ojiya, Niigata. Hemp gauze half collars not only offer a refreshing coolness to others during midsummer but also allow the wearer to enjoy the unique cool touch of Asajimi (hemp crepe). Authentic Ojiya Chijimi Born from over a thousand years of history and tradition in weaving hemp in the snow country of Echigo, around the early Edo period (1670), Ojiya Chijimi was created by applying a strong twist to thin weft threads, resulting in fine wrinkles on the fabric surface. Even today, the wrinkles are created by hand-shrinking each bolt of fabric in hot water, just as it was done then. The refreshing feel of natural hemp fiber and the unique texture of crepe fabric are soft, light, and highly breathable, making it the ultimate comfortable summer garment.
