#Kaneshige Toyo #Bizen Ware #Living National Treasure #Master Potter Masterpiece! Extremely rare as the number of pieces released into the world does not increase. A renowned chef should recognize its excellent design. Top-class item! Kaneshige Toyo's Fundoin (weight seal) was a potter's seal primarily used during the early period, from around 1930 (Showa 5) to 1935 (Showa 10). It is known as a seal used during the transitional period from his earlier focus on intricate crafts to his shift towards wheel-thrown pottery based on research into ancient Bizen ware. Characteristics and Background of the Fundoin Seal Period: A limited period in the early Showa era. Later, he transitioned to seals like the Tsuchi-in (earth seal). Works: This was a period when his exceptional pottery skills began to be evident, with pieces such as flower vases existing from this time. Rarity: It is valued as precious material from the early stage of Toyo's career, around the time his style was being established. Bizen ware is pottery that does not use glaze, characterized by kiln changes where the color and pattern vary depending on the conditions of the kiln during firing. Furthermore, by firing at high temperatures for extended periods, it possesses high strength and practicality, and its flavor deepens with use. Main Characteristics: No Glaze: Bizen ware does not use glaze applied to the surface of the pottery. This creates a simple and natural texture. Kiln Changes: The color and pattern change depending on the conditions of the kiln during firing (temperature, amount of ash, placement of the work, etc.). In particular, climbing kilns exhibit beautiful kiln changes such as sankiri (scorched appearance), goma (sesame seed pattern), hidzuki (streaky red pattern), and botanmochi (peony rice cake pattern). High-Temperature Firing: Because it is fired at high temperatures of 1200°C to 1300°C for extended periods (about 1 to 10 days), it has high strength and is less prone to water leakage. Develops Flavor with Use: The surface has fine irregularities, and with use, oils and dirt seep in, creating a unique flavor. Practicality: The dense internal structure gives it a high specific heat, meaning it heats up slowly and cools down slowly. Therefore, it is also said to enhance the taste of food and sake. Other: Bizen ware is counted as one of the Six Ancient Kilns of Japan and is primarily produced in the Ibara district (Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture). Vessels for various purposes are made, such as tea bowls, teapots, sake cups, and vases. Its durability is such that it is said, It won't break even if thrown. As the saying goes, The charm unique to Bizen ware, simple yet profound, is born when earth, fire, and human skill compete and harmonize to the utmost limit, it is also an artwork woven by nature and humans.
