This is a very unique piece. The date stamp is Nov 30, 1886. Composite is not stamped. Unsure if it's Sterling Silver or Silver Plate. Ebay- Mythologique Gorham Sterling Silver Google Search -This item is a collectible antique sterling silver fish knife, identified as part of the Mythologique pattern by Gorham, which was copyrighted in 1895. Gorham Silver. Mythologique. Sterling Silver. Features ornate repoussé detailing on the handle depicting a mythological face and figures. Other-this is an antique Master Butter Knife in the Renaissance pattern by Reed & Barton, first released in 1886. This specific pattern is highly collectible due to its dramatic figural or grotesque handle, which features a mythological-style face at the tip. Reed & Barton 1886 The face is often interpreted as a Grotesque, Devil, or North Wind figure. It reflects the Victorian era's fascination with highly ornate, Renaissance Revival themes. Silver plate. During the late 19th century, dining etiquette reached a peak of complexity, leading to the creation of highly specialized utensils. A master butter knife like this one was intended for the shared butter dish, rather than individual place settings. Its unique and slightly eerie face, this pattern is considered a novelty piece and remains a popular choice for collectors and those looking for unique conversation pieces for their table. With mixed research, I'm unable to make claims on manufacturer or composite.
