This is a tone ring that attaches to the bottom cap of the valve casing of trumpets, cornets, etc., to alter the resonance. Unlike typical brass with plating, this is made from high-purity silver (sterling silver), the kind used for rings, which has been hammered. This particular model features a distinct hammered finish, creating a multi-faceted look that offers a striking visual impact depending on the angle of light. It can be attached to the preferred location on the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd valve caps. Depending on preference, the most noticeable change is often heard on the 3rd valve. You can expect a richer, more focused tone with a broader resonance. The photo shows it attached to a Bach. It has slits and is adjustable in size, making it compatible with most standard-sized instruments like YAMAHA. #Valve Click here for the manufacturer's site
