A rare antique linen lace piece with a delicate style reminiscent of Belgium, England, or Italy, featuring scattered petals and a charming figure. This is a small, impactful bobbin lace doily or coaster, handmade and purchased in the ancient city of Bruges. The figure, perhaps a mythical character or wearing a hat or helmet, has animal-like ears (possibly a dog's). With eyes, a mouth, chest, navel, arms, hands, and legs, its surprised expression is endearing and heartwarming. Delicate, fluttering elements like flowers, clovers, three-petaled flowers, and fringed edging decorations. The palms of the hands resemble blooming flowers. The connecting bridges also look like plant leaves and stems, as if a human figure is emerging from a meadow, creating a mythical, lyrical, and joyful style. The color is a gentle, soft cream ivory tone, perhaps retaining the natural linen hue or with a hint of delicate skin tone. Despite being tightly woven with fine linen thread, it possesses an airy softness and smoothness. Its gentle elegance that lightly sways in the breeze is also captivating. The technique resembles Bedfordshire lace from England or Reticella lace from Italy. The airy, openwork lace feels cool and refreshing for spring, summer, and early autumn. Its gentle color also evokes warmth in winter. The fabric is durable and resilient, suitable for casual everyday use. Please excuse any errors in the amateur measurements of this handmade item. Diameter: 11.3 - 10.5 cm Weight: Approx. 1.9g It is in beautiful condition with no noticeable stains or damage. It is also beautiful when viewed from the back (see the last image). Use it to display antique objects, or place it under antique bisque dolls, mignonettes, jewelry, vases, or cherished photographs. It enhances the artwork, adding elegance and charm.
