After engraving, the wood is treated with Kinuka, a domestic rice bran-derived oil. This gives the wood a natural luster and depth, enhancing the beautiful grain characteristic of birch plywood. Place names such as Regent St. and London are engraved on the carved areas. This gives the piece the presence of a captured record of a place, rather than just a landscape. The framing uses tweed fabric with a calm texture for the backing.
